Ingredients
Sliced frozen bananas*see notes
Optional Flavor Enhancements
Frozen or fresh berries, mangos or peaches, peanut butter, cocoa powder, protein powder, cinnamon, vanilla extract, honey, etc.
Instructions
Simply place sliced frozen bananas into a high quality blender or food processor and slowly blend until smooth. You may need to scrape the sides down with a spatula as you go. If you allow the bananas to slightly thaw for about 10 minutes, you shouldn’t need any additional liquid.
To speed up the process as well as flavor the banana, you can add 1-2 tbsps of liquid such as water, juice, or milk.
Optionally Flavor To Your Liking
To make the mixture fruity, consider adding other frozen or fresh fruits to the blender such as strawberries, blueberries, peaches, mangos, etc.
Are you a chocolate peanut butter lover? Add a tbsp of peanut butter and a bit of cocoa powder to the mix. You could alternatively drizzle with melted peanut and chocolate syrup once finished.
Anything else that pairs well with banana can also be mixed in such as cinnamon, vanilla extract, honey, maple syrup, caramel, etc.
Enjoy Now or Freeze For Later
Once blended, your bananas should be the texture of a thick frosty that can be enjoy right away. You could even top it with chopped nuts, chocolate chips, or granola for crunch.
To make the mixture more like ice cream, place the banana frosty into a shallow dish such as a bread loaf pan, Tupperware container, or ceramic dish. Freeze for about an hour and then use an ice cream scooper to serve.
To enjoy at a later time, cover your dish, freeze, and then thaw on the counter for about 30 minutes before serving.
Notes
Sliced bananas are best frozen in a single layer so that they don't stick together, making them easier to blend. I recommend placing them on a parchment lined sheet pan and then transferring them to a freezer bag or container. Even easier, you can also place them in a large Ziplock bag, keeping them loose and in a somewhat single layer before freezing. Basically, you just don't want them all bunched up in a blob before freezing!
